"Stay out of it, Jasparstar!" exploded Flaxpaw. "I- I mean--" he sputtered, horrified with his outburst. He wasn't supposed to be an angry cat. He never got this mad. And at the clan leader? This was horrible. "Sorry... I mean please," he said through clenched teeth, "we have to work this out." He was trying not to sound too exhasparated, but his voice had taken on an annoyed tone. "I know that training is more important, but we're not gonna be very good if we're mad at each other!" He knew that he was being extremely rude to the Clan leader, but he really wanted to take care of whatever was going on between him and Beechpaw... he couldn't really tell what it was.
"So," he turned back to Beechpaw, not even waiting for Jasparstar's reply. "I don't see why you're mad at me! I didn't do anything!" He was being more polite now, partially because his mentor was standing behind him and partially because he had taken a little break from being mad at her, and now felt almost like he was on her team now and they were both subjects of Jasparstar, petitioning for the right to fight with each other instead of training. Of course, it was a little different because he was the only one who was doing the petitioning. He wondered if she wanted to fight too, or if she would gladly leave to train. Then it would be a lost cause for him. But maybe she did want to fight. He hoped so, because it meant she at least agreed with him about something, wheras a refusual to continue their dispute might mean that she was still annoyed at him but thought him so insignificant that she couldn't be bothered by him anymore. In Flaxpaw's opinion, this was worse that good clean anger.

»Jasparstar flicked his tail with annoyance that Flaxpaw had just talked to him in that way. He looked at Flaxpaw wit a hard stare to give him a telling off. "Flaxpaw i do not expect you to behave in such a way when you are in front of new apprentices. You may sort this out but it better not be long if it takes till sunhigh. then you must go and clean the elders ticks afterwards he thought to himself. Then he sat himself by the fresh kill pile and started to take a piece of fresh kill.»

Beechpaw's eyes narrowed. Eat my dust, foulbreath! She hissed, hitting some dirt towards Jasparstar's eyes. Turning back to Flaxpaw, she murmured, I'm sorry.... I don't know what came over me..... Wanna run away together, just to get away from this evil Clan? I guess we don't have to be together together, but having someone accompany me might be nice. Her eyes had softened and were filled with hope as she silently prayed to StarClan he'd say yes.

Flaxpaw felt ashamed, rebellious, pleased, and shocked all at the same time. Ashamed because he had been so disrespectful, rebellious about Jasparstar's punishment. He was happy that Beechpaw had finally come to her senses, but when she suggested that they both run away, he was stunned. He had no idea that Beechpaw hated the Clan. Of course all of these emotions were happening at the same time, so he really hadn't a clue why they were all showing their ugly faces right at that moment. And he had to make a decision right then, and it would be his for life.
"What would we do out there, Beechpaw?" He didn't like the idea of being all alone with no other cats. But he did like the idea of being with Beechpaw, having their own little twosome, so private and special. He really couldn't decide. It felt like he was standing there for hours, with Beechpaw looking up at him expectantly. "No," he decided. "I can't. I wish you wouldn't either, Beech, but if you have to, then goodbye." He tried to look into the she-cat's eyes, wondering if he had just triggered another angry outburst. It seemed likely.

Beechpaw's hopeful eyes instantly turned hurt again. If you knew what you were doing to me, you'd come. She murmured, then she ran out of camp, tears staining the ground at Flaxpaw's paws.

Flaxpaw looked after the cat but did not follow. "If she wanted me to come, why didn't she say what I was doing to her?" he asked Jasparstar quietly. When he noticed that the leader still looked a little annoyed (after all, Beechpaw had just flung dirt in his eyes), he turned around and whispered, "I hope she comes back." He wasn't sure if Jasparstar heard.
The golden apprentice didn't know what to do. He was sure that Jasparstar had some sort of consequence in mind for him, but he didn't really care right now. He slipped quietly out of the camp to look for Wavepaw. He wasn't mad at him anymore, and he hoped they could be friends, since he had just lost one friend.

»Jasparstar followed him thinking Flaxpaw was a goood cat and Jasparstar understood his words. but what Beechpaw had just done was not the right thing. He left the camp heading to follow Flaxpaw he wanted a talk with him but not a bad one.»
